I’m excited to be co-teaching with Tricia Cooke for the third time in summer 2024! We’ll be bringing our workshop, Say It Softly, to Pocosin Arts July 29 to August 2.
In this workshop, we will actually speak pretty loudly, but through the softness of textiles. Using language as a starting point–phrases, mottoes, slogans, and singular powerful words–we will make ideas literally tangible. We will explore a range of textile processes–including soft sculpture, appliqué, reverse-appliqué, trapunto, embroidery, and embellishment (with plenty of sequins)–to translate words into physical forms. Students can expect to produce a set of process samples and at least one finished piece by the end of the class. All levels.
